The Office of Environmental Legal Services

The Office of Environmental Legal Services among others, assists in the formulation of national (new) environmental legislation and regulation, Office provides legal counsel with respect to the ratification of international conventions, and helps with the implementation of these conventions. Also the Office of Environmental Legal Services provides legal services to all other NIMOS Offices, the GDN, Ministries and the public, as required.

Formulation of national environmental legislation
The Office will take the lead in the formulation of modern environmental legislation for Suriname. Environmental Management has to be provided by a legal basis.

International conventions In the case of ratification, the Office will analyze the convention’s implications for national legislation and prepare a proposal for legislative adjustments required. And help with the implementation of the convention, through legislation or other regulations.

Legal services to NIMOS offices, the General Director of NIMOS, ministries and the public.

The Office will provide day to day legal advise to the GDN and other NIMOS offices.
