The National Institute for Environment and Development in Suriname (NIMOS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are engaged in the multi-year project Improving Environmental Management in the Mining Sector of Suriname, with Emphasis on Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining (EMSAGS).
The EMSAGS project aims to improve environmental management in the mining sector of Suriname, with the emphasis on artisanal and small-scale gold mining as the biggest cause of deforestation in Suriname. The project is funded by, among others, the GEF through the UNDP and implementation is jointly in the hands of the Ministry of Natural Resources and NIMOS.
The EMSAGS project invites applications for the following consultancy:

Environmentally Responsible Mining of Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASM) Consultancy (International Consultant)

The Terms of Reference (ToR) and Personal History Form for the abovementioned consultancy can be downloaded below.


Interested candidates who meet the criteria mentioned in the Terms of Reference can send their technical- and financial proposal by email, no later than February 26, 2021 at 16:00 hrs. Suriname time to info-EMSAGS@nimos.org 

The subject title of the email should read: “Proposal for ERM Consultancy EMSAGS Project”.

The submission letter should be addressed to:

Only applications that meet the requirements as specified in the ToR will be considered

Related to the transition to the NMA (National Environmental Authority), NIMOS will update the Environmental Assessment Guidelines Volume I (Generic) this year. You have the opportunity to provide feedback using the Comment Form. Although you can give feedback on the entire document, we are particularly interested in feedback on the following areas:

  • Annex1: screening guidelines
  • Annex 6: scoping guidelines
  • Annex 7: recommended structure for environmental assessment reports
  • Annex 10: review checklist
  • Annex 11: guidelines and criteria for EA review
  • Annex 12: guidelines for Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and Environmental Management Plans (EMP)

The deadline for comments is Friday 26 February 2021

Gerelateerd aan de overgang naar de NMA (Nationale Milieu Autoriteit) zal het NIMOS de algemene richtlijnen voor milieu effecten analyse (Volume I) dit jaar updaten. U heeft de gelegenheid feedback te geven middels het Commentaar Formulier. Hoewel u op het heel document feedback kan geven, zijn wij vooral geinteresseerd in feedback op de volgende onderdelen:

  • Bijlage 1: richtlijnen voor screening
  • Bijlage 6: richtlijnen voor scoping
  • Bijlage 7: Aanbevolen structuur voor Milieu Effecten Rapporten
  • Bijlage 10: Checklist voor de beoordeling van Milieu Effecten Analyses
  • Bijlage 11: Richtlijnen en criteria voor MEA-beoordeling
  • Bijlage 12: Richtlijnen voor Milieu Management Systemen en Milieu Management Plannen

De deadline voor het versturen van commentaar is vrijdag 26 februari 2021.
