NIMOS Short-term consultancy EIS review
For the Review of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for an Oil Field Development Activity Offshore of Suriname, South America, the National Institute for Environment and Development in Suriname (NIMOS) will require external expertise to assist within the following areas:
– Environmental and Social Impact Assessment
– Drill Cuttings and Effluent Discharge Modelling
– Oil Spill Modelling
– Air Quality and Climate (GHG)
– Underwater Noise Modelling
– Environmental Permitting for Offshore Oil and Gas Production
The review is necessary to assess the technical quality, accuracy and completeness of the EIS for this Oil Field Development Project. By doing the review, NIMOS wants to assure that the EIA presents all the relevant information necessary for a well-considered decision-making regarding this project.

Environmental Framework Act
Environmental management and protection is a primary task of the government. Article 6g of the Constitution provides that the State will create and promote conditions which are necessary for the protection of nature and the preservation of the ecological balance.
Phasing out Mercury usage
The aim of this project is to formulate a national action plan to enable the government to determine national requirements, needs, goals and schemes to limit the use of mercury (Hg) in the small-scale gold mining sector (ASGM) and processing or stop.
