What is land degradation?
Land degradation is the reduction of the quality of land and soil as a result of human and natural activities.

Natural causes of land degradation:

  • Earthquakes
  • Floods
  • Erosion

Artificial causes of land degradation:
Human activities are the biggest cause of land degradation. For example:

  • Over-fertilization
  • Applying incorrect agricultural techniques
  • Deforestation

An area / soil that is degraded in productivity can be characterized by a bare rock soil, salty soil, accelerated soil erosion, infertile soil, etc.

Some solutions for this common phenomenon are:

  • Drainage
  • Using agricultural strips for cultivation
  • Ground cover
